Your built-ins, finished to read as stone
Stone-look plaster, clay, or limewash on the cabinets, shelves, and built-ins you build, on your schedule, at one fixed quote in writing.
What can designers and businesses expect?
Wall Magicians works to your drawings, specifications, and schedule, at one fixed quote in writing. We take on homes and commercial interiors, including salons, spas, restaurants, cafés, bars, and boutiques, across Indianapolis and its northern suburbs. Every custom finish comes with up to two free sample boards.
Finishes we make by hand
Our own work.
-
Slate-look plaster wall
A tall freestanding wall in charcoal plaster, layered like slate: a dark ground that sets off the lanterns, the copper sculpture, and the pale furniture in front of it.
-
Charcoal plaster fireplace surround, the house still being built
A boxy fireplace surround and a floating hearth in charcoal plaster with soft, cloudy movement, finished while the house was still being built, its niche waiting for the TV.
More of our work
Your salon, restaurant, or shop, finished around your hours
We work with you directly or through your designer or contractor, around your opening hours, in colors that can match your brand. Estimates and material demos at your space are free.
- Salons and spas: limewash, clay, Venetian plaster, faux stone, and designer paints
- Restaurants, cafés, and bars: feature walls, columns, ceilings, and restrooms, in finishes chosen for traffic and cleaning
- Boutiques: feature walls, fitting rooms, and display walls
Microcement for counters, seating, and displays
Picture a reception counter, a built-in banquette, or a display rack in microcement: one continuous, stone-like surface, in your brand’s colors.
Tips from the studio
-
Touch-ups, years from now
We keep every color and formula on file, so a scuff, a new doorway, or the next room years from now can be matched to the walls you already love.
-
Call us while the walls are bare
Building or renovating? The best moment to call is mid-construction, when the walls are prepared and bare, no furniture is in, and no wrong primer or paint has gone on. Every finish starts from the right surface.
-
Approve the sample on your wall
A sample in your own light, approved before we begin, is the surest way to love the result. The sample you approve is the wall you get.
-
A counter, a seat, or a shelf in one piece
For a salon, café, or shop, a counter, a built-in seat, or a display rack in microcement reads as one continuous piece of stone, in a color that answers your brand.
-
Ask your builder to hold the primer
An ordinary drywall primer can keep limewash and clay from bonding. Tell your builder a mineral finish is coming, and we will name the primer it needs, or prepare the walls ourselves.
-
What lies beneath matters most
Most failures start under the surface: the wrong primer, a damp patch, a crack left open. We prepare every wall for its finish, not just for paint.
-
Wire the lighting before the finish
Settle the sconces, picture lights, and LED channels before the walls are finished. The wiring goes in once, the finish goes on once, and nothing has to be patched later.
-
Hallways and stairs take knocks
Where bags, strollers, and shoulders brush the walls, choose a harder, denser plaster, or put wainscoting below and the softer finish above. Children and dogs will thank you.
-
Mark the TV and shelves in advance
Decide where the TV, the shelves, and heavy art will hang before we begin. We can finish around the brackets, or leave you the exact spots to drill once the wall has cured.
-
Hide the light in the architecture
LED channels tucked under a shelf, into a cove, or along the edge of a built-in wash a finish with light from a hidden source. The eye follows the glow exactly where you want it to go.
-
Quiet a tall room
Oak slat acoustic panels beside a limewash wall soften the echo of a tall room, and the warmth of the wood answers the warmth of the lime.
-
Photograph every finished wall
Take a few daylight photographs of each finished wall. If a wall is ever damaged, they help match the repair to the original.
-
Look up in the kitchen
A Marmorino ceiling above the island catches the glow of the pendants and makes the kitchen feel finished from every angle.
-
Microcement goes over, not out
Microcement is laid in thin coats, so it can often go over a sound existing surface instead of tearing it out. We check the surface first and tell you plainly.
-
Know the signs of a rushed wall
Peeling, chalking, lap marks, and blotchy patterns usually start with one rushed step. Paint and plaster problems shows what to look for before you hire anyone.
-
Ask what the guarantee covers
Before you hire anyone, ask what their guarantee covers, for how long, and what it leaves out. Ours is written out in plain words.
-
Decide where the eye goes first
Every room needs one focal point: a fireplace, a lit niche, a plaster hood. Give it the richest finish and the best light, and keep the walls around it quieter.
